RootsFree

Share your tree with family.

Send a link. Family can look, and add what they know. You decide what goes in.

How it works

  1. One person keeps the tree. That person is the custodian.
  2. The custodian sends a link by hand: a text, a message, a note. We never email anyone.
  3. The first time you add something, you type your name. That is all. No password.
  4. What you add waits until the custodian says yes.
  5. The custodian can turn off any link at any time.
  6. The custodian can delete the shared tree at any time.

Ask about your family

A shared tree has an Ask button. Ask who someone's grandparents were, or which record would prove a birth. Ask it to add a person, and it writes a proposal. It never changes the tree by itself: the custodian still says yes or no. It only knows what the tree says. When the tree does not say, it tells you which record would.

Sharing is free, like the rest of RootsFree. See what a shared tree keeps.
