What this means in practice

Nothing to cancel

There is no plan to buy, so there is no card to store and nothing to renew. Gifts happen on Ko-fi, GitHub Sponsors or Stripe. Each one is a choice you make on that site, and none of them changes what you can use here.

Your data is not for sale

Your tree is kept in your own browser's storage. It is not uploaded to us, so there is nothing to sell, rent or share. No ad networks and no paid placements, on the tree or on the guides.

Shared trees follow the same lines

If you share a tree with family, a copy is kept on our server so they can see it. It is still free, it is never sold, you can export it any time, and you can delete it from the server any time.

Living people stay private

Anyone who could still be alive is left out of exports, charts, reports and maps unless you choose to include them.

Leave with everything, or wipe it

Export the whole tree as a GEDCOM 7 file with a zip of every photo, any time, without asking anyone. To delete everything, clear this site's data in your browser. There is no copy on our server to chase, unless you shared the tree, and a shared tree has its own delete button.

Anyone can read how RootsFree works and check these lines against it. The public link to the code will be posted here when the repository opens.
